Mission Statement
The mission of Asniya has two complimentary embodiments: that which is explicit and that which is implicit. The explicit mission of Asniya is to bring medical knowledge and opportunity to Native children and adolescents on remote and underprivileged Indian reservations. Dynamic, animated, and interactive lessons are presented to these students on diverse medical and health topics, providing basic, practical knowledge and increasing medical sophistication. This knowledge has immediate value towards increased safety, preventative care, and overall improvement of health. In addition, instruction and interaction with Asniya interns renders medical professions less abstract and more tangible to our young Native population.
The implicit mission of Asniya is to instill within these kids a greater sense of self-worth, confidence, and capability. The presence of Asniya interns, having traveled from esteemed institutions and in many cases great distances, demonstrates the value and appreciation the interns have for the students, who in turn may gain a greater sense of importance. This interaction promotes positive change, nurturing, growth, and the development of wholeness both within the students as well as within the interns.
While the focus of Asniya is medicine, the scope of the mission is broad. It is believed that such personal empowerment will help our Native children to reach higher levels in education and self-actualization, which ultimately will allow them to better serve their families, their communities, and their people.
